MARK GEORGE, 1995
graphite on paper 23”x32”

Mark George, nephew of Paul George, great nephew of Chief Dan George, is a Coast Salish Indian of the Burrard Nation, North Vancouver.

I sense Mark’s spirit longs for the old days of his ancestors; his heart for earlier times. A skilled carver in his own right, Mark struggles to embody, rather than reproduce, the spiritual totems of his ancestors.
His small carvings are no less wonderful than the twenty-four foot totem pole, seen behind, that he carved for the Lonsdale Quay, North Vancouver.

(This piece received the Award of Excellence at the Sea to Sky Visual Edge 1995 juried competition in Squamish, BC and one of only 165 spots throughout BC to be entered in the Provincial Images & Objects ’95 Art Show, Kamloops, BC)
